Donor Advised Fund FAQs

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a simple, flexible, and streamlined way to organize your charitable giving. Enjoy recommending grants to your favorite causes over time while CFF takes care of all the administrative burden that can complicate charitable giving on your own. Read through these DAF FAQs, and reach out to our team if you have more questions.

What type of assets can I give to a DAF?

You can contribute cash, appreciated securities (such as stock), real estate, and other assets, including from a private foundation. You cannot give qualified charitable distributions from your IRA to your DAF, however there are other fund structures for this type of contribution. Contact our team to discuss your options.

How long does it take to set up a DAF?

It can be done same day! If you're ready, we're ready. Contact our team to get started.

Can I only recommend grants to local nonprofits?

You can recommend grants to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations locally and across the country. You can also recommend grants to international nonprofits, though additional due diligence may mean these grants take longer to process.

Can I use my DAF to purchase nonprofit event tickets?

No. Grants from your DAF cannot provide you with a personal benefit, such as event tickets, dinner admission, or golf tournament registration.

Why choose CFF for a DAF over a larger commercial provider?

At CFF, your fund works twice as hard for our community. You recommend grants to the organizations and causes you care about, while the expenses on your fund expenses support our work in the local community. Unlike a purely commercial DAF experience, your fund is connected to something bigger.

You also receive concierge-level service. Our team gets to know you, your goals, and what matters most to you. Have a question? Just give us a call. You'll reach a real person who knows you and your fund. No chatbots required.

Can I transfer a DAF from another provider to CFF?

Yes! Please contact Neil Rios Laverde to get started.

Can someone else continue my fund in the future?

Yes. You can name successor advisors to your fund who can continue your charitable giving and recommend grants when the time comes.
