Overview

In 1999 an anonymous donor established the Edna S. Hargrett Fund to honor Mrs. Hargrett’s direction of the well-known Jones High School Choir. Edna taught school for 44 years with 33 of those years spent at Jones High School, helping countless students achieve performance excellence.

Distributions from the fund provide scholarships for Jones High School students to attend college and also makes an annual contribution to the Choral Music Program at Jones High School.

Eligibility

Applicants must...

• Be a graduating senior currently active in Jones High School's Choral Music program
• Have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 (3.0 or higher preferred)
• Have at least four years of choral music participation, including at least two years in Jones High School's Choral Music program
• Have competed in vocal, piano, or ensemble competitions at the district or state level for at least three years, and participated in all Jones High School music department recitals
• Be accepted to a community college, college, or university, with plans to stay engaged in music afterward through avenues like church choir, community performances, or a college/university choral program
• Demonstrate financial need

How to apply

Students are nominated by a school faculty or staff member and receive a link to the online application from the nominator along with an access code to gain access to the application.

All eligible applications will be reviewed and considered by the Edna S. Hargrett Scholarship Selection Committee. Finalists will be invited to an in-person panel interview to discuss their educational and musical goals. The Edna S. Hargrett Scholarship Selection Committee will make their scholarship decisions immediately following the interviews and the Scholarship Recipients announced during the annual Jones High School Choral Program Banquet.
