News Collaborative of Central Florida

The Focus

The News Collaborative of Central Florida is a collective of independent local news outlets and aligned partners working towards a more informed and engaged Central Florida. It grew out of the Central Florida Journalism Ecosystem Summit, created in 2024 by Central Florida Public Media, Central Florida Foundation and Oviedo Community News. The Collaborative’s first editorial initiative examines the regional impact of Florida’s Unauthorized Public Camping and Public Sleeping law.

Central Florida Foundation’s Partnership with THE COLLABORATIVE

Our Role
Central Florida Foundation serves as the convener and operational advisor for the Collaborative, acting as an independent and trusted bridge builder across the journalism ecosystem. Uniting a variety of journalism organizations required a neutral thought leader and facilitator—and the Foundation fulfills this unique role within our community.

The Why
The Foundation specializes in developing partnerships across sectors. With our expertise in finding common ground and aligning shared goals, we facilitate conversations that turn a spark of an idea into a functional operational partnership.

“This collaboration among local news organizations is an excellent example of Central Florida as a leader in community innovation,” Mark Brewer said. “Organizations across sectors want to work together to achieve shared goals, and this initiative shows what’s possible when we prioritize collective impact over individual gain.”

Additionally, the Foundation values our region’s civic engagement and social capital, a key focus of the Collaborative. Through our Thrive Framework, we lean into this critical area under Community & Social Connection.
