100 Women Strong Member Spotlight: Rina Patel
January 23 2017
We recently had the opportunity to get to know one of 100 Women Strong’s newest members, Rina Patel. Learn more about her in our conversation below.
Rina Patel works in Global IT Service Management and Operations for ACI Worldwide and is the founder of Cents of Relief, Inc. Rina and her husband, Anup, relocated to Orlando this past summer after Anup accepted a new job in the area. Originally from Florida, they both welcome the opportunity to return home. Rina’s passion to serve those in need motivated her to co-found Cents of Relief, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The nonprofit was established in June 2003 when Rina was an undergraduate at the University of Florida. Cents of Relief empowers victims of trafficking through health and educational initiatives and has been featured in the New York Times bestseller, Half the Sky and USA Today.
What was your driving force to join 100 Women Strong?
While Orlando is vastly different from New York City, I wanted to continue to serve my community. The giving circle enables me to not only give back to my community, but also work on causes closest to me such as the empowerment of women and children.
Why do you think we need 100 Women Strong in our community?
Women need an outlet where ideas can be engendered freely and a group to disseminate these ideas. 100 Women Strong allows us to take our dreams and turn them into reality with a group of individuals aligned with the same interests.
Where would you like to see 100 Women Strong in five years?
I would love to see our group collectively impact and motivate women and children to become leaders in society.
What kind of impact do you think the group can have?
One of the people I admire in life is Mahatma Gandhi. He is knows for his quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” For me, I aspire to live to these words daily. While it is hard to do so individually, if you have a group of individuals who believe in the same ideals, each one can motivate the other to make a monumental, tangible, and positive impact in our world. That is the beauty of 100 Women Strong.
Thank you Rina for sharing your thoughts with us!
