About Monday Night Jazz Jam
Starting in 2008, “The Monday Night Jazz Jam (MNJJ) was founded by nationally known pianist Billy Hall. In 2011 he passed away. His goal was to have a venue for musicians to connect with music lovers, showcase their talents and most of all support local charities. Co-founders saxophonist Don Black, former bank executive and jazz radio personality Yvonne Coleman, founding member and renowned vocalist Ms. Jacqueline Jones, Musical Director Joseph Jevanni along with numerous others, have kept Billy’s dream alive for 9 years.
The MNJJ performances are from some of the finest musicians/vocalists in Central Florida. Many are internationally known and have played with jazz greats i.e. Miles Davis, Kenny G, Nestor Torres, Arturo Sandoval, The Rippingtons and many more. Amazing talented young musicians have also been discovered at the sessions.
The Monday Night Jazz Jam started at Beluga’s in Winter Park Village and was held every Monday. When it closed, we were invited to make our home at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Orlando. When we out grew that location, Terrace 390 then Mingo’s became great venues for our event. In 2015 more space and amenities were needed. Since then, we have enjoyed the casual sophisticated atmosphere at Bar Louie’s Restaurant in Dr. Phillips. Through their Louie Love’s program 20% of the net sales are donated to the MNJJ’s charity of choice. It is now held the first Monday of every month.
The MNJJ is attended by a mature diverse audience, which also includes celebrities, top business, political and community leaders. The set includes Contemporary/Standard/Latin Jazz with a mix of Adult Contemporary, Blues, Gospel and more.
