The Black Boardroom Leadership Institute (BBLI) is designed to ensure that Orlando’s nonprofit leadership reflects the diversity of our community, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where minority leaders have a voice at the table, not just a seat on the roster.
The Black Boardroom Leadership Institute consists of two, six-month programs: the nonprofit track, for nonprofit organizations interested in creating an inclusive environment on their boards, and the leadership track for individual Black leaders who desire to serve authentically on a local board.
The story of BBLI’s origins begins with a Facebook post that noticed a problem in our local nonprofit boards. This catapulted conversations with CFF and community members on what to do about the problem.
Through an anonymous gift from a donor-advised fund at Central Florida Foundation, BBLI was able to launch into its pilot year.
CFF’s Mark Brewer and Sandi Vidal both serve on BBLI’s Advisory Council.
In a recent nonprofit survey, only 11% of nonprofit boards have Black community members in comparison to 77% of the members being non-Hispanic white. The Foundation supports BBLI’s mission to ensure that Orlando’s nonprofit leadership reflects the diversity of our community.
